Does this sounds like a good Idea?

Me and my best friends are really into camping and survival stuff. My uncle owns tons of land where we can go and theres nobody for like 100 miles. Well the plan is to go to one of these places, and all we start with is a pocket knife, and an ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY ONLY cell phone. My parents are fine with it as long as we promise to call if theres a big problem. We will have to make our own clothes, temporary houses, find food, water etc. We know lots of techniques and survival stuff, even though we are all only 14. The only things my parents are worried about is freezing on the first night, since we dont have any clothes, or a tent to start off, but we assured them that we will keep warm. Is this a good idea?

I think it sounds like a neat idea but i would suggest doing it in the summer months, if your going to do it at all. Also bring a container for fresh water and make sure that the cell phones will work in such a remote location. I would also suggest bringing a first aid kit just in case. It all depends on parent permission but if you feel you are strong enough then go for it. Try your idea first on an area close to human contact in case anything happens then then each time you do it go further in to the wilderness. It alike training for the Olympics. Little steps first before you leap in. But always check with your parents to make sure they are alright with your plans.

Cell phone won’t work in most "survival" areas. Get a satellite phone or a set of high range walkie talkies and give one to the rangers in the park.

Is it a good idea? Well…probably not…but if the state has to come and rescue you then you’re going to be paying for it for the rest of your life (as well your parents will). Rescue fees are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. A lot of states will charge you for rescue if you purposely do something like this.

How about you take a GPS and a small bag with emergency stuff and wait until the weather warms up not NOT freezing at night…
Oh, and don’t wander too far from the drop off… it will be easier to find you.

There are survival schools and courses which you can find with a search of the internet. Going it alone the first time is asking for trouble. Learn from professionals, as a mistake on your part could be FATAL! Hypothermia is a killer and not to be played with.

If you really want to try it on your own, have a base camp with all of the needed supplies available set up and then do your survival thing within a few yards of safety. If you find you are in trouble, you can always head for the safety of the camp and if things work as you hope, you can ignore the camp. Remember that the weather or other circumstances could change in a few minutes causing your plans to not be workable. Having a safe haven close could save lives.

No, 14 is too young to go off somewhere unsupervised……….

It’s not a question of 14 year olds not being able cope with it and most probably can, but most would be vulnerable to all sorts of unknown threats…………….
