How to best remove rust from a pocket knife blade?

Posted: June 5th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Questions | Tags: , , , , , , | 5 Comments »

I have a Leatherman c33x folding knife and I’ve noticed some darker spots on the blade that looks like rust. The blade is made from 420HC steel, which I thought is supposed to have better corrosion resistance at the expense of its ability to hold a sharp edge for a long time (correct me if I’m wrong). Anyone have some tips on how to easily (and cheaply) remove rust/ prevent it from getting worse?

Thanks in advance!

go to an auto parts store and in the section that has bondo and other body repair stuff you will find a maroon colored scotch brite pads…they work great for cleaning up steel !

Fine steel wool or an SOS pad for dishes works. Coat it lightly with oil to protect it from further corrosion. Try to dry it off whenever it gets wet.
