I would love websites and links and pictures and all that.

Well, Buck knives are made in the USA and are a supporter of Scouts on all levels. They are a quality brand and unless you lose the knife, it will serve you a lifetime.
Their 110 model is a classic and hard to beat for utility. Not sure why you think an assist open is needed, but I believe they have those too.
swiss army knife, buy at o.c. tanners– go to o.c. tanners.com maybee?
I have a knife that is similar to this one:

If you are using this for scouts and/or camping, I think a multitool would be much more useful than a single blade assisted-open knife. Leatherman has a great range of reasonably priced well-built multitools. Big single-blade knives are hyped up a lot in movies and on TV, but real campers and backcountry experts use multi-tools and maybe a small folding knife.
I second Buck Knives as the best value for a well-made lock-back pocket knife. I sold them 35 years ago in an outdoor shop and still have the one I bought then as well as a second one I bought for kayaking that had a nylon/rubber handle. Great knives and an excellent warranty, also made in the USA unlike most other knives these days.
